Yosemite National Park (2003.08) : Yosemite National Park is a national park located in the eastern portions of Tuolumne, Mariposa and Madera counties in east central California, United States. The park covers an area of 761,266 acres or 1,189 square miles (3,081 km²) and reaches across the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain chain. Yosemite is visited by over 3.5 million people each year, many of whom only spend time in the seven square miles (18 km²) of Yosemite Valley. Designated a World Heritage Site in 1984, Yosemite is internationally recognized for its spectacular granite cliffs, waterfalls, clear streams, Giant Sequoia groves, and biological diversity. Almost 95% of the park is designated wilderness. Although not the first designated national park, Yosemite was a focal point in the development of the national park idea, largely owing to the work of people like John Muir and Galen Clark.

St. Ann Community Carnival (2008.09.06) : St. Ann Catholic Parish in Coppell has hosted a carnival to provide safe, family fun for the entire local community since 1993. The plan was to grow an event
that would serve the entire community rather than a festival directed mainly at parishioners. The first carnival was organized by some of the original ministries
and organizations at St. Ann including the Men’s Club, Women’s Fellowship, Knights of Columbus, Life Teen, and Empty Nesters. The first carnival had only three
tents, 10 to 12 members of the organizing committee, and about 700 volunteers on the actual weekend in October, 1993. Now, the committee is approximately
35 people who begin working shortly after the previous year’s carnival. It requires about 1700 volunteer shifts to operate the three day event in addition to
the employees of Talley Amusements who operate the midway rides.
